Monofocal IOL
Monofocal Intraocular Lenses (IOL's) are soft, foldable lenses made of hydrophobic acrylic material that are used to treat nearsightedness (myopia) farsightedness (hyperopia).
Patients can choose this and have both eyes corrected for distance. Patients who get this lens will likely still require glasses for reading after surgery and may also need intermediate and distance glasses. Monofocal lenses are predictable and are a good option for most patients.
Monofocal lenses are covered by British Columbia MSP Health Insurance
Premium Monofocal IOL
The Extended Depth Premium IOL offers excellent distance vision and brightness while its innovative design slightly extends the depth of focus.
The innovative design of the Extended Depth Premium Lens offers a distinctive monofocal experience:
-
This lens features a one-of-a-kind shape intended to subtly extend the depth of focus.
-
Patients are likely to need glasses for reading after surgery

Extended Depth of Focus IOL
The Extended Depth of Focus Intraocular Lens (IOL) technology is used for addressing farsightedness. Unlike Multifocal IOLs, EDOF lenses establish a solitary elongated focal point, as opposed to multiple focal points, to augment depth of focus.
These lenes offer superb distance vision for reading road signs, provide enhanced intermediate vision for computer use, and improve near vision.
Patients will likely still require glasses for reading after surgery.
Trifocal IOL
Trifocal IOL's provide a sustained, sharp visual experience to individuals with cataracts, spanning from nearsightedness to farsightedness and even provide good quality vision in low or dim light.
See the world more crisply and clearly with improved focus. Trifocal IOL's offer a solution for distance, intermediate distance and close up vision and reading.
These lenses have a lower chance, compared with other IOL's, of requiring glasses after surgery.
TORIC Marking
and
IOL Placement
TORIC IOL's are good options for patients with astigmatism. Astigmatism occurs when either the cornea or the lens within the eye has an imperfect curvature causing blurry or distorted vision. TORIC IOL'S help to correct astigmatism and improve vision.
TORIC lenses require special measurements by your Ophthalmologist prior to your surgery. These measurements ensure the lens is placed correctly, providing the best results for those with astigmatism.
Patients who receive the TORIC IOL are likely to require glasses after surgery.
Light Adjustable Lens
The first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that allows your physician to optimize your vision following cataract surgery. You will be able to preview and compare possible vision outcomes with your doctor based on your personal desires and lifestyle requirements
The Light Adjustable Lens offers significantly better visual results that non-adjustable IOLs cannot equal.
It is twice as likely to attain
20/20 vision
without the need for glasses compared to standard (fixed) monofocal IOLs.
How does the Light Adjustable Lens Work?
Vision optimization is done by your eye doctor after lens implantation through a series of painless light treatment procedures that precisely reshape your lens.
